Short Story Conference
Last year, I pitched a rough idea for a paper for the Short Story Conference held annually in Liverpool in May. The wrote back asking for a full abstract. I panicked and pretended I never received the email, then got called a numpty by my Field Chair. So this year, I’ve been a touch braver and pitched a paper about ‘Transgression in Short Story Collections’, basically talking about how the short story is the best medium for transgressive, bizzaro and experimental fiction. A lot of this essay resides in my dissertation already, so it wouldn’t be a massive job to write it.
They have thanked me for the submission and are considering it. I’m only half hoping that it’s accepted. On the one hand: what a huge thing to take part in at my age. On the other: me standing in front of a room of scholars and academics with a bit of paper trying not to vomit is a difficult image to wrap my head around.
Hohum, we shall see what happens.

I don’t know, maybe we could share a bucket?
I think we just might have to. I’ll bring the scotch.
